In the Blue Ridge Mountains
“The mother/daughter relationship has the potential to be the most nourishing, sustaining, intimate relationship of our lives.”
Katy, Carol, and Mary
Mothers and adult daughters—come steal away for an indulgent, creative few days in the country. Begin your weekend by watching a video, Mother-Daughter Wisdom, by Dr. Christiane Northrup. This video is funny, serious, positive and uplifting. It will provide mothers and daughters with the opportunity to see the often untapped potential in their relationship. The viewing of this video can be facilitated (optional) by Barbara Adolfi, LCSW. After viewing this video together, mothers and daughters have the opportunity to spend the weekend together, being as active or restful as they desire, deepening their relationship. See our “Weekend Getaway” page for activities. Barbara will help you select activities, if you so desire. You will have full and private use of the entire house. Continental breakfast provided. Only your family/friends will share this experience.
Sperryville, Virginia, is an historic village in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Shenandoah National Park, about an hour and a half west of Washington DC. It is surrounded by small farms and wineries, offers unique shops, galleries, a wellness center, and is full of people interested in a healthy approach to life.
Where will you stay? The House on Water Street, in the quaint, turn-of-the century village of Sperryville (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) will be your home away from home for a few days of personal relationship renewal. This is a charming, cozy, 107-year-old restored village farmhouse which is minutes from all the activities, restaurants and galleries. Mothers and daughters can pre-select those activities which interest them for the remainder of the weekend. We pride ourselves on helping you discover the "hidden jewels" of Sperryville and surrounding Rappahannock County—the special activities that are not in the guidebooks. We will tailor this mountain getaway to meet your interests and abilities. For those who prefer outdoor activity, Shenandoah National Park is minutes away and has hikes of many degrees of difficulty—or one can drive along Skyline Drive, stopping often to enjoy the view. Dine at the Inn at Little Washington. Enjoy your own private wine tasting at one of Rappahannock's family-owned wineries. Indulge yourself with a massage by a certified massage therapist in your own room, or go to the nearby wellness center for traditional spa treatments or massage. Engage your creative spirits with pottery workshops or make art with nature’s materials.Awaken your bodies and your souls with yoga, Nia (combination of dance, martial arts and healing arts) or Synergy Dance (transformative dance of the body from the mind through the emotions). Explore the magic of an herbal discovery workshop, complete with healthful potions (aphrodisiacs, immune-system boosters). Connect with the heartbeat of Mother Earth in a drum circle in the mountains! You can choose what you want to do from a menu of unique renewal experiences.
